While most address autocomplete apis do a good job of completing the street name, you'll have to work to match it up with the address. For example, a street address will have over 800 valid secondary unit numbers. In order to get accurate results, you should include these in your address autocomplete. This article will outline three methods to do so. If you're using a third-party API to do your address validation, here are the details.

The US Autocomplete API returns suggestions from its index of address combinations. The service populates a dropdown menu underneath the cursor and the user can choose one. A test environment can be used to see how well the autocomplete feature works. To test it, create a sample cURL request. Smarty's Autocomplete Pro uses keystroke detection to calculate the number of letters in the address and suggests an address based on the keystroke. It averages between eight and ten letters.

Google's address autocomplete software offers some accuracy, but there are several shortcomings. The API is unable to recognize typos or processing errors. Therefore, it will often assume that a spelling or typing mistake is correct and will autocomplete the rest of the details. The result can be extremely frustrating. If your address autocomplete API is unable to detect spelling or typing errors, your customers will not be happy. A better approach would be to use an address validation API service.
